Pizza and Gelli recyceling.

I love to recycle! And when you are a Gelli Printer, using up all those off prints, for something useful, is a pleasure!

A empty pizza box, is an ideal cover for a new journal. I cut off all the flaps...

And then rolled on black acrylic paint.
Got out a pile of prints....
Some is to be cut up, and others will be used for more journal covers.
                                                   Cut into smaller pieces.
These three will remain uncut, for new covers, for another project.
The inside of the pizza box, painted green.
Glued some of the cut up Gelli prints on the inside cover.
One print was on an envelope, glued the flap down....
And here it is opened up, ready for keeping stuff in!
                                          Inside cover.
Used a feather print for the outside front cover.
Black tape for the edges, to finish it up.
And a black bird tissue transfer on the front back cover.
                                                           Inside cover finished.

Now ready to put in the pages. See earlier tutorial on how to.

New sketches for paintings

So inspired by my trip to Canada, had to do some new sketches for future paintings.

Autumn colours

Yes, it is now! Colours are changing, birds are migrating, the days are getting shorter, its autumn.

But with autumn comes jam making! Lovely rose hips picked on a nice beach walk.
The colours are amazing, every where you look, berries are spilling over. Happy birds!
So, on that note- an Autumn journal page, made up from scrap prints, and a napkin.
The old envelopes made excellent roof tops for the bird houses.
Gelli printet on top. Dark blue acrylic.

And finished it with oil pastels.

And some more prints.....

Gelli printing is very addictive!
I need to come up with a brilliant idea, for using all of the piles and piles....

The collection is growing by the day!
I love it when "mistakes" turns out to actually work!
The paint was getting old, and water seems to have separated from the pigment it self.

Gelli Printing in Canada.

We all had a lot of fun, printing for a whole day. So much talent :)
                                                              And concentration!

I got so inspired by the rocks by the lake, and the "cairns" on the cliffs, so had a go at making masks and printing rocks.....

Another group of very talented ladies.
                                                    Woosh........another print is born!

The home made gelli plates were taking a beating in the sweltering heat! But they did good :)

A lovely selection of Carla Sondheim inspired printing methods.

Learning new techniques for my Gelli Printing

As all good teachers, I need inspiration also. And for my Gelli Printing workshop in Canada, just a few weeks away, I looked to the very talented and very nice Artist Carla Sonheim. I bought an online course from her, watching her great techniques, and on I went. I like it at lot. It kind of combines my own way of painting, layers upon layers, and the "simple" shapes and forms that I love, with the always totally unpredictable life of your printing plate and colours.

As all new beginning, practise take time. As Carla Sonheim herself says, out of eight prints, maybe 3 is perfect. The rest goes in the "for other use" pile. Printing plate, brayers, paper, water and paint...off we go!
This one is a "to keep". If I were to work more on this, with say Ink, it might become balloons in the sky.
Another one "to keep". I think it is a flower pot in a window...
 Maybe.......
I like some bits of this, not all...
 Same with this one!
 Hmmm......
 No!
And the total disaster!
So this has been fun, and I shall practise more. I think I need to find my own colour scheme....But I am grateful to have learned something new, and a little struggle is healthy :)
